Hi Thanks for your response. Before when I got into the list of optional updates by doing a check for update, Neither the applications key nor shift f10 did anything. But I discovered that while in the main Windows update page, if you tab to the list box whose first item is Windows update settings, you can arrow down to hide or unhide updates and press enter. In the list of optional updates that this brings up, the applications key worked fine to hide an update.
