Hello Wayne, The following applies to JAWS 15. I hope it is the same for JAWS 14.
When you move focus to the end of the text you want to mark you use insert key with spacebar followed by M not Alt with spacebar. Alt with spacebar brings up the control menu with choices such as maximize, minimize and move. Pressing the M after using Alt with spacebar activates the move option if it is available in that menu. In a Word document you can enter a place marker using CTRL Windows key and K. You can move back to it by using Alt Windows key K. After you mark the beginning place in the document you navigate to where you want to mark the end of the block of information and use JAWS key with spacebar followed by M. This selects text between the place marker and the mark at the end of the block of text. Take care. I needed to copy a large amount of text and I placed a marker at the beginning of the block of text with Control+Windows key+K. I went to the end of the block and used the command, Alt Spacebar M. Here is where the trouble began, I realized that I had the beginning marker in the wrong place but I could not find out how to get rid of it so I went to the marker, selected the line and tried to delete it. From that point on Word went nuts. I could not navigate, selecting would no longer work and it looked as though the whole file had been corrupted. Can you let me know the correct way to eliminate a place marker?
