Hi I'm assuming that the recipient of your Word documents is using the Word 2010 default settings that say that Word documents received in an email or from the internet will be opened in protected view. These settings can be changed by the recipient, not you, in their Word options. I don't remember exactly how to find these options, but there have been several messages posted to this list on how to turn them off. Search the archives for Word protected view.

I did not know this before, but when I send a Word Doc. It cannot be edited and must instead first be pasted into another Word doc. For me, I can do anything I want at my end. What do I configure and where so that I can send a doc that can be read and also edited or changed, not just read alone? I think my Word is also configured for '97 and 2003 settings, if this helps. Thank you very much.
