Yeah, here's what you need to do. I assume here that he has his gmail set up for pop3 access.

1. Open the account creation under Tools, Accounts.
2. Set the name by which you want to refer to the account, (helpful if he will have more than one email account). 3. Enter the way the name should appear in the from field. Enter an organization if applicable.
4. Enter the email address [email protected] where xxxxx is the username.
5. Check the box to have it look for mail when Outlook Express Opens.
6. Hit apply.
7. Go to the servers tab.
8. Specify that it is a pop account.
9. Pop3 server is pop.gmail.com
10. smtp is smtp.gamil.com
11. Account name just enter the user name, but not the @gmail.com part.
12. Enter the password, and check the box to remember it.
13. Leave the next box unchecked, but check the second one "my server requires authentication.
14. Go to the advanced tab.
15. At the smtp port, enter 465.
16. Check the box that it requires SSL.
17. At the Pop3 port, enter 995.
18. Check the box that it requires SSL.

NOTE: Usually, checking the SSL boxes automatically sets port 995, but verify.

Hit ok, and close the account wizzard.
