Hi Ed, I don't know enough about navigating the ribbons to give a good explanation on using virtual ribbons or not but, I don't use the virtual ribbons & when I open Word 2010 I make sure that ribbons are maximized for much better navigation. I just went to Word 2010, opened quick settings, checked the virtual ribbons checkbox & after saving my change I opened the context menu & the minimize / maximize option wasn't there. I went back & unchecked virtual ribbons, saved the change, pressed the Alt key to highlight the ribbons, opened the context menu, & wellaw, the minimize / maximize option was there. You would have to experiment with having the virtual ribbons on or off & see which way you prefer to navigate the ribbons. You know different strokes for different folks. Take care. To navigate ribbons more efficiently the ribbons need to be maximized. The keystroke is, control + F1. This keystroke is a toggle so, this keystroke will maximize & minimize. To check if the ribbons are minimized / maximized do the following: 1. Press the, Alt key, to open the ribbons. 2. Open the context menu with either the application key or, shift + F10. 3. Arrow up or down to the, Minimize, option. When I first installed office 2010 a few years ago there was a program that changed the ribbons to work like word 2003. I can find no way to reverse it. I was on with a Microsoft tech for about 3 hours and she could not fix it. She is escalating the problem. She located the program and uninstalled it. It did not correct the problem. did a repair on office 2010 with same unfavorable results. And as I did last night uninstalled office 2010 and re installed it and the problem is still there. She did find a work around for me. To do an insert in word I can use alt N instead of alt I. She will be getting back to me in 48 to 72 hours.
