Thanks for the suggestion, but someone else already gave me the solution and it's working back as it should.
I was moving some banking info files of 2014 to a thumb drive, and this was in a folder for that year. I also created a sub-folder within that main one, and I guess this is how things got confused as to where files were to be saved that I created after I had finished with that folder. But, I am back on track and relieved that some files I had created in Note Pad weren't gone missing.. Thank you for these steps, they are worth keeping as well. On one of the tabs here, you can include some folders and Set the default save location , so the Save as dialog box for document files should show that selected folder.
