When installing a new version of JAWS, and/or uninstalling an older version, I have come to the conclusion that as a general rule, it is better to delete the old user settings on the uninstall, and say no to any prompt about picking up old user settings on the new install. I know that Freedom Scientific will say that for most folks it works fine, and provides the hoped-for result of not having to do the configuration on the new install. The problem is that in most cases when in recent years I have had JAWS issues for which the cause could not be determined, Freedom Scientific tech support would recommend an uninstall and reinstall, and telling me to dump the old user settings. So for these reasons, and as explained below, dumping the old settings can help a lot to keep old problems from creeping in to your new JAWS install.

I did finally get it to work, by using default setting.

Thanks,

hello;
did you set the default to beginner
I to am using jaws 16, windows 8.1, and jaws does anounce copy to clipboard,
wen set to beginner.
or, if you are wanting this behaviour in a program, just open the program,
example, word, notepad, outlook,
now use the quick settings, insert+j,
now type verbosity,
you should see result.

Ok, I have JAWS set to intermediate, then set it to beginner, and still
didn't hear the extra information I am wanting to hear.

I'm not sure if there is a problem, or not.

Thanks for the help.

I think you will find that your JAWS verbosity is set to intermediate or
advanced; change it to beginner, and you will hear the longer prompts. If
you find that JAWS then talks too much in other respects, then the list
under the beginner verbosity group should allow you to fine-tune things to
your liking.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] How can I get JAWS to read more information?

Hi list,
I am using JAWS 16 1925 on a Win 8.1 computer. I am trying to get
JAWS to speak more information, such as, copied text to clip board, instead
of just saying copied.

I am using Nuance, Ava. I went to speech verbosity and have JAWS
info, with long info checked, and it doesn't seem to have changed.

I hope I explained this good enough, and that someone can help.

Thanks,
