Hi Sharon,

This note pertains to FF 34 but, since I did this I haven't had any Jaws
cursor problems with the latest version as well.

Hello!

Perhaps you should change this value from "true" to "false" in about config
page:

layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled

I use Firefox 34.0 with JAWS 15.0.12085 and the JAWS cursor works quite
well.

See also this discussion:

Harri

This is the default setting:

layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled set Boolean true

This is what I changed it to:
layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled set Boolean false

With this line of text highlighted, press the application key to open the
context menu & press the letter, T, to toggle it to true or false.

Take care.
Mike

Tried this with latest FF and Jaws cursor still just reads Graphics numbers.
I am using Win 7. Are these directions for Win 8?

Hi Sharon & Prateek,

Try the following:

Question: Is there a way to use the JAWS Cursor in Firefox?
Answer: You can use the JAWS Cursor in Firefox after turning off Firefox's
hardware acceleration setting.
1. In Firefox, press ALT+T to open the Tools Menu and then choose Options.
2. From the Advanced options, choose the General tab.
3. Press TAB to move to the Use Hardware Acceleration when Available
checkbox. Press the SPACEBAR to clear it, then press ENTER to close the
dialog box.

Take care.

I did as directed and Jaws cursor still reads nothing except some graphic
numbers. Also, Jaws did not recognize forms mode on my Google home page so
I put it back the way it was and the forms mode works again.

Using latest Jaws and latest FF on Win 7. Maybe these directions are for Win
8?

Now I will go back and change it back in case it messed something up.

Hi,
This is also for tb.

Firefox and Thunderbird both use Direct2D rendering by default. This
prevents the JAWS cursor from detecting information.
Fortunately it is easy to disable this rendering. You need to do it
once for each version of Firefox and Thunderbird you use on your
system. To do
this you need to set two configuration variables to true:
gfx.direct2d.disabled, and layers.acceleration.disabled.

1. Open the Configuration Editor. In Firefox, enter about:config in the
address bar. In Thunderbird, go to the Tools menu and navigate to
Options,
Advanced, General, then Config Editor.

2. Once in the Configuration editor, press TAB until you are in the list
of options.

3. Pressing UP or DOWN ARROW will move you between options or typing the
first few letters of an option's name will move you to a specific
option
in the list. In this case, type gfx and press DOWN ARROW to
gfx.direct2d.disabled.

4. Assuming the option is set to false, press the APPLICATIONS KEY to
open the context menu and choose Toggle. This will change the
option to true.

5. Go through the same process for layers.acceleration.disabled.

6. Close the Configuration Editor and restart Firefox or Thunderbird.
The JAWS cursor should now show content.
Hth.
