I have found that this is definitely the best way to update JAWS. First, never use the message that comes up on the screen to update. Sometimes that method works and sometimes it doesn't. What I do is go right to the Freedomscientific page and go from there to download the new JAWS update. When I click on download, I always save the program. Never choose run, because you will not have the program saved on your computer if you need to reinstall it. Make sure, when you choose save, that you down arrow so you can get on Save As. Press enter on save as, and you can choose the folder you want the .EXE install file to go. Then enter on save, and in a few seconds, the computer will make a noise telling that the exe install file is on your computer. Close all web pages. Now, find that EXE file that you just saved. The file will say something like JAWS and then more info, but at the end, it will say .EXE. When you hear that, hit enter and the new JAWS update will begin installing on your computer. It will talk you through the process just like it does when you download the brand new version when it comes out. After the installation, you are done. All of this is why it is so important to not update JAWS from the message that comes up on the screen. Just say no to that and go to Freedom Scientific just like you would when downloading a new version of JAWS in the fall. Always Always save and not run. You want that .EXE file to be saved on your computer so you can find it and quickly reinstall if you need to do so! Hope this helps someone. By the way, do these steps with any program you are downloading, not just JAWS. Always save and not run!
