No, this does not work and I cannot read important messages in my In Box because of this setting. I cannot find the show in groups that you refer to. What you say does not work. Perhaps you can tell me more specifically how to change this setting, since I cannot do this, based upon what you say here. Thank you very much.

If you arrow up once, assuming that show in groups is checked in the view/arrangement/arrange by ribbon, you will hear today expanded. This is also the case if you press home while in the folder to move to the top message.
