Insert J still works when you run JAWS from the system tray. It takes you directly to the JAWS menu. If you have your hidden icons shown you will also find it when you press insert + f11.

The problem you will find, is if you do not have a shortcut on your desktop, then you will not be able to Alt Tab around to find the program window. If you did have the desktop shortcut, you could then use Windows + D or M to take you to the desktop, then press the letter J to find the JAWS icon, and press enter on it to open a set of links to each menu. Then you can select the Help menu and open the Start Up Wizard to disable JAWS from running from the system tray. Without the desktopshortcut, then you should be able to access the JAWS menus from the system tray itself, but I am not sure how to do this. It would be easy enough to add the sshortcut as a just in case, and if you like the way it works, then you could delete it at anytime. I start jaws when it doesn't start by itself with the hot keys ctrl alt D. If I put it in the tray would it be different. If I put it in the tray could I get it out? I haven't tried it yet. If it only saves me one alt tab press, and that is the only benefit, then I don't know if it is worth it. Well we'll see. JAWS still started at the log on screen and after start up. However, once the computer had booted up, the ALT + Tab function did not work, and I could not alt tab from open program + to program. I had to use the Windows key + D to get to the desk top, and sometimes I would be on the desktop and not know it. Only by pressing the first letter of the name of one of my shortcuts did I realize that I was on the desktop. I can tell you, running JAWS from the system tray is not for me. So, how do I get it there? When jaws is in the tray will it start when I turn on the computer and boot it up? The 1 thing I like is 1 less window in the Alt + tab order. Take care. What is the advantage of having jaws run from the system tray ? I have my jaws start up when I turn the computer on. But if for some reason, like if I turn jaws off, I have the hot key ctrl alt J to open it again. If not this is probably why the keystroke, Insert + J, isn't opening Jaws options. Try the following to get Jaws to run from the system tray: 1. Alt + Tab to the Jaws window. 2. Press, Alt + the letter O, to open Jaws options. 3. Press enter on, Basics. 4. Tab to, Run JAWS from System Tray checkbox not checked, & press the spacebar to check this box. 5. Tab to, Okay, & press enter to save your change & close Jaws options. 6. Restart Jaws or your computer for the change to take place. HTH Take care. It isn't working. I wanted to turn Jaws off temporarily and turn it on again because when I go to the links list, Jaws is only reading the first letter of the name of the link. It does that occasionally and I find that if I turn Jaws off and then on again, the problem is solved. But now insert J isn't getting me to the menu. If I go to Jaws 13 on the desktop and press enter, nothing happens either. Does anyone have any suggestions?
