Hi Leonard, Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, changed the Windows Sound Recorder in Windows 7 and up. The numbers you hear spoken by Jaws appears to be some type of progress bar, even though nothing is happening at least not that I could find. Once you press the record button, recording begins and when you press the stop button, it opens a "save as", dialogue at this point, you can choose to save the file, or tab to the cancel button, and then resume recording. The only way I have found to check your recording is to play the file after you have saved it, and there is no way to edit it in the Sound Recorder program. You are right, there was a graphic file available for earlier versions of Jaws, but they worked only for the Windows Sound Recorder program in Windows XP, which was more versatile than the new one.
