I think I said all of that almost verbatim.

Hi Rose,

uncheck to make it permanent. This worked for me for all my documents. Judy
1. Press Alt-F to open the File button
2. Press T to open Options
3. Down Arrow to Trust Center
4. Press Alt-T to activate the Trust Center Settings button
5. Down Arrow to Protected View
6. Tab to the Enable Protected View for files originating from the
Internet check box
7. Press Space to uncheck the box
8. Tab to the Enable Protected View for files located in potentially
unsafe locations check box
9. Press Space to uncheck the box
10. Tab to the Enable Protected View for Outlook attachments check box
11. Press Space to uncheck the box
12. Tab to the OK button
13. Press Enter and the Trust Center dialog will close
14. Tab to the OK button
15. Press Enter and the Word Options dialog will close

Backstage:
From: Brian Lee
Hello,
1. Use Alt+F followed by Alt+T to go into Word options.
2. Press S to move to the Save category.
3. Tab to the checkbox "don't show the backstage when opening or saving
files" and press spacebar to check it.
4. Tab to OK and use spacebar.
If you also don't want the backstage opening when you open word do the
following:
1. Press Alt+F followed by Alt+T to go into Word options.
2. The first category is general. Tab across the options in this category.
When you get to the "Show the start screen when this application starts"
checkbox use spacebar to uncheck it if it is checked.
3. Tab to OK and press spacebar.
4. Close Word and open it again to make sure your options stayed as you set
them. If not then you might try restarting your system.
Take care.

I assume that again you are NOT talking about 2010! I have been through
every setting in Word 2010 and the settings you mention for protected view
and getting rid of backstage DO NOT work.

Hi Dacia,
For this one, you will also have to open the File tab and arrow down to
Options. Then, under categories, arrow down to the Trust Center. Now, once
inside of this, arrow down until you find Trust Center Settings, and open
this. Once in Trust Center Settings, arrow down to Protected View, tab one
time to enter the Protected View settings, and uncheck any of these settings
that you do not want affecting the files that you download by having them
open in protected view. When at the end of the list, simply tab once and
press enter on the OK button. Lastly, do this one more time to exit the
menu. Now documents that you download from the internet, an email attachment
or whatever, will not open in protected view.
If you do have one to do this, focus on the file, right click and select
properties. At the end of the Home tab, there will be an item called
"Unblock". Click on this, then on Apply, then on OK, and the file will not
open in protected view.

I have office 365. One of the things I want to change is that documents
open in protected view. This is kind of annoying. How do I change this?
thanks,

Yes, but 2010 is much more accessible going in. Office 2013 makes you
jump through some hoops, but you can clean it up with minimum time and

My does, under Options, Start Up Opptions, it reads "Show the Start
Screen when this application opens". There is a check box here and it
is checked by default, so uncheck it to stop seeing the Backstage View
and go straight to a blank document. This is not referring to the
Windows 8 Start Screen.
Also,
it is located near the bottom of the Start uUp Options menu.

Hi,
How do you start the desktop version of Word?

Hi,
In the File tab, arrow down to options, and select General. Tab on
down
until you find Show the start screen when this program opens, and uncheck
this box. Now select OK and now the back stage view will not come up when
you open Word, just a blank document.
As for more blind friendly versions of Word, I know that the web app
is
not very accessible, but the desktop versions should be equally
accessible.
On saving, I, again, open the file tab, and arrow to Save to save
changes
to a previously saved document. Or, to save a new document and assign it a
name, press enter on the Save As option, and it will say saving features,
go
down to computer, and you will get an edit field to type in the name that
you want to give to the document. Then, simply tab down to the Save button
and press enter. If you do not want to save the document to the default
folder, usually the Documents folder, then in the edit field, type in the
path to where you want the document saved, such as: c:\archives\document
name.

Hi,
I have several questions about Word 2013. I am using windows 8.1 and
JAWS 16. How do I set it so it will open a document without having me
hit enter on the backstage view when I just want a new document
opened? Also, it says is the word app is there a more blind friendly
version? Also, having trouble saving as, it brings up a save
features dialogue box and am not sure what to do.
thanks,
Dacia
