On this note, how does Windows 10 handle Solid State Drives
on PC's and/or tablets?

Al

No, that is not correct.
You can still do disk cleanup.
You can still defragment and optimize your drive in w-10.
You should do these on a regular basis or schedule them.

My old XP just went to Gomer the Guru.

I understand that in 10 we do not have to do defrag or disk
clean up? Is that correct?I do not have a solid state hard
drive, just a great big one, 1 tb.

Best from,

Carolyn

Hi Dave,

There actually used to be a cheat sheet located in the
advanced tab of the system properties in Windows XP, but
alas, they've done away with it, and I don't know where to
obtain it anymore.

This command was part of the list of commands that included
the IP release and renew commands for your internet, the
check disk and disk defrag and other useful utilities that
were, and still are, as you can see, useful back in the day.

In any case, perhaps someone with an XP computer can pull up
the system properties with Windows key+pause, then control
Tab to the advanced tab, or, at least, that's what I think
it was called, and copy those commands down for us.

Unfortunately, all of my computers are Windows 7 and up.
LOL.

Very Cool! Had no idea this dialog existed, much less how to
find it. Is there a cheat sheet somewhere giving these
specific control commands and what they access?

Hi, You can press Windows key+R to get the run dialog box,
then, in the run edit field, type in "control
userpasswords2", without the quotes, and press enter.

In the resulting dialog box, uncheck the box that says,
users must type a password to use this computer, and make
sure it's unchecked.

Tab to the ok button, and press enter or the spacebar.

You'll receive a dialog box prompting you to select the
default user and to enter the password associated with that
user.

Once you select and type in the default username and
password, tab to the ok button, and press the spacebar.

At this point, you can close the userpasswords2 dialog box,
if it's still open, or unless you want to make more
advanced modifications in one of the other tabs, and from
that point onwards, it should boot directly into the
desktop.

Keep in mind that if you have User Control turned on, it
will prompt you to press the yes button if you want to allow
the action.

Good luck.

Kimsan,

Good idea, but that would still present the logon screen --
It would just need the Enter keypress to go past it.

In 8.1 it use to be in the navigation pain in the start menu
properties
which after just looking now, it's not there; however, what
if you simply
remove the password from the log on screen, unless you have
others using
your machine...
