I have same except using Windows 10. I had an excel spreadsheet in older format. All f2 works fine. I copied a few columns and rows and opened Excel 2013 and pasted. First time I pressed F2 nothing, press escape and tried F2 again and no problems after that. Unsure why you are getting this message. But Excel 2013 had all sorts of different grids and just down arrowed to simple or generic, cannot remember exactly and then pasted. Good luck.
