Hi Rosario,
Here are tips from FS on using Skype.
Skype
Skype™ allows you to make free calls and send and receive instant messages
with other users across the Internet. You can also purchase an optional rate
plan to add the ability to place calls to land line and mobile phones.
The following describes some helpful tips on using Skype with JAWS. If you
are running a version of Skype earlier than 6.9, you should update to the
most recent version to take full advantage of JAWS support for Skype. For
more detailed information on using Skype and all of its features, refer to
the Skype online help or visit the Skype home page.
Accessible Mode
In order for JAWS to work optimally with Skype, you must enable the
Accessible Mode option in Skype by doing the following:.
Press ALT+T to open the Tools menu, press UP ARROW to move to Options, and
press ENTER.
When the Skype Options dialog box Opens, press DOWN ARROW until you reach
Accessibility.
Press TAB to move to the Enable accessible mode check box and press SPACEBAR
to select this option
Press TAB to move to the Save button and press ENTER to accept this change
and close the dialog box.
Enabling Skype Shortcut Keys
In order to perform various Skype functions from the keyboard, such as
answering an incoming call, do the following:
Press ALT+T to open the Tools menu, press UP ARROW to move to Options, and
press ENTER.
When the Skype Options dialog box Opens, press DOWN ARROW until you reach
Hotkeys.
Press TAB to move to the Enable keyboard shortcuts check box and press
SPACEBAR to select this option
Press TAB to move to the Save button and press ENTER to accept this change
and close the dialog box.
Changing the View
Skype has two layouts: Default View and Compact View. By default, Skype
opens in the Default View.
In the Default View, Skype shows your contact list and conversations in one
main window. While you can use JAWS in this view, you may find it tedious to
navigate around especially if you have multiple conversations active as all
conversations are placed in the same window.
For best results, it is recommended that you switch to Compact View, which
displays your Contact list in the main window, while conversations are
displayed in their own separate windows. You can then use ALT+TAB or the
Windows List dialog box (INSERT+F10) to move between conversation windows
and the Skype main window.
To switch to Compact View, press ALT+V to open the View menu, press UP ARROW
to Compact view, and press ENTER.
Answering and Ending a Call
When Skype alerts you to an incoming call, JAWS automatically speaks the
text of the notification regardless of what application you are currently
using. The notification is also shown on the braille display as a flash
message. You can also press INSERT+SPACEBAR followed by SHIFT+R to repeat
the incoming call notification.
To answer an incoming call, press ALT+PAGE UP. If your computer has a
webcam, you can press CTRL+ALT+PAGE UP to answer a call with video. You can
use these keystrokes from any application once Skype alerts you that someone
is calling.
To hang up once you are finished with a call, press ALT+PAGE DOWN. Just like
answering a call, you can use this keystroke from any application.
Instant Messaging
If you are in a chat window typing messages back and forth with another
Skype user, JAWS automatically announces incoming messages as they are
received. Incoming messages are also shown on the braille display as a flash
message. If you are involved in multiple conversations and you are using the
Compact View, which opens each conversation in a separate window, JAWS will
also read incoming messages from other conversations in the background. To
repeat the last background message, press INSERT+SPACEBAR followed by
SHIFT+R.
To review previous messages in the current conversation, use TAB or
SHIFT+TAB to move to the history list, and then use the UP or DOWN ARROWS to
navigate the list of messages. You can also press CTRL in conjunction with
number 1 through 0 on the number row to read the last 10 items in the
history list with CTRL+1 being the most recent. Pressing CTRL+1 through
CTRL+0 twice quickly will display the corresponding message in the Virtual
Viewer.
If the currently open Skype window contains a chat entry field, pressing the
JAWS keystroke CTRL+SHIFT+E will move focus to this edit field so you can
begin typing.
Conversation Hot Keys
Conversation hot keys allow you to quickly move to any Skype conversation
window from any other open application window. You must be using Skype in
Compact View, which opens each conversation in a separate window, in order
to use conversation hot keys. To assign a conversation to a hot key, press
CTRL+WINDOWS Key+1 through 5 from the currently open conversation. To move
to a conversation which has been assigned, press INSERT+SPACEBAR, 1 through
5.
Note: Due to limitations with Skype, attempting to switch to an assigned
conversation window using INSERT+SPACEBAR, followed by 1 through 5 while
minimized to the Windows desktop, will not move focus to the specified
window. If all windows are minimized, first use the Window List dialog box
(INSERT+F10) or press ALT+TAB to move focus to each conversation window. You
will now be able to use INSERT+SPACEBAR, 1 through 5 to switch between your
assigned conversations.
Also, while in Skype:
ALT+1, takes you to your home list of contacts.
ALT+2, Shows you recent messages and notifications.
Pressing enter on a contact, will call them.
I hope this helps...
