No using place markers, to do that you need to create a temporary place
marker. To create a temporary place marker press control+window Key+K. Jaws
will say temporary place marker set, then go to the part in the text where
you want to stop selecting, and press insert+space bar, then press M.
Jaws will say something like selecting between marked place and current
position, then you can do what ever you want with the text selected.

Thanks for the reminder of how to set a place marker in a browser.  I have a

further question.  Can I move from the place marker to another point in the 
text on the web page, and capture that text in the clipboard?

Place your cursor on the text you want to be ookmarked.  Press shift
control k and follow instructions.
