Hello,

If you want to hear column titles, row titles or both as you navigate cell
to cell through a Word table there are two different methods you can use. I
find the bookmarking feature to be the quickest method. The file you are
working in should be saved first. The steps for both methods are listed
below. First, remember that you cannot use any spaces in the bookmark name.
After you type in the bookmark name use Alt+A to add the bookmark to the
list.

Using the Word Bookmarking Method

1. If you want to only hear column names then move to the row
containing the column headers you want to hear as you move across rows in
the table. Usually the column titles will be in the first row.

2. Hold down CTRL with shift key and press function key 5.

3. Type in "ColumnTitle" without the quotes. Note that there is no
space used between the word "column" and the word "title." Use a capital C
on the word column and a capital T on the word Title but no space between
the words.

4. Use Alt+A to add the bookmark.

5. Navigate across a row that doesn't contain the titles and you
should hear the column title followed by the cell content.

NOTE: If you have more than one table you are not able to use the same
ColumnTitle bookmark name for more than one of them. For subsequent tables
you could type ColumnTitle_1, ColumnTitle_Sales, etc. No spacing should be
used in the bookmark name and capitalization of words should be used. Also,
if you use something like ColumnTitle followed by an underline and a
descriptive word make sure the descriptive word is not one used in the row
that contains the column titles.

To hear both row and column titles the bookmark name should be "Title"
without quotes. To hear row titles the bookmark name should be "RowTitle"
again without quotes, without spacing and a capital R used for Row and a
capital T used for title.

Using JAWS Quick Settings Instead of Word Bookmarks

1. Move focus into a table.

2. Press JAWS key V.

3. In the search box type in the word "table" without the quotes.

4. Tab to the list of results.

5. Arrow down a few times to the "Define bookmark table column and row
titles override"

6. Use spacebar to cycle between "on for all files" "on for the
current file" and off.

7. After making your choice You need to tab to the OK button and press
spacebar.

8. Go back into the quick settings by using JAWS key V.

9. Type the word "table" (without quotes) into the search box.

10. Tab to the result list and arrow down to "table titles announce."

11. Use spacebar to cycle between "Read column title", "Read row title",
"read both" and "off."

12. After making your choice tab to the OK button and use spacebar.

Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] How to define column title in a table?

Hi I wanted to draw a table where I could get to know the title of the
column and rows. If I am pressing the hot key, control+alt+numpad 5, I am
getting the following message:

"no column title has been defined for this table, no row title has been
defined for this table."

So my question how to define column and row title so that I could get to
know in which column I am presently in?

I am using Word 2010 along with Jaws 15 if it matters.
