use ctrl+w to close folders when alt+F4 doesn't work

Hi all,
Using W10, latest J16.x.
Went to external drive and opened my documents. Looked in several folders.
Use alt+f4 to close and now I have three active things when I cycle through
using alt+tab.
Jaws, My documents, health care.
My documents and health care both state message. I cannot close these
folders with alt+f4. Whenever Jaws states message it seems I cannot get
this app or folder to close. What am I doing to cause this "message" to be
spoken by Jaws?
