That is the one for windows 7 but I am using windows 8.1
this update came to me in a windows update and it was 3,112,336 which is the one for windows 8.1 and I downloaded it and I was just wondering if I should have or not because I do not want my system to change to windows 10 with out my knowing it I know you described what it is for below but I just want to make sure it does not do anything strange to my 8.1 system
so far it has not.

This update enables support for additional upgrade scenarios from Windows 7
to Windows 10, and provides a smoother experience when you have to retry an
operating system upgrade because of certain failure conditions. This update
also improves the ability of Microsoft to monitor the quality of the upgrade
experience.

2007 R2. Windows Update agent scans client computers periodically. In this
situation, the scan fails and generates a "Not Required" state for all
updates.
