Tom,

You might want to explore in the Control Panel for Windows. There is a way
to set up alternative keyboards that can be accessed via a key combination.
I once used this to change my keyboard to a Swedish keyboard, allowing use
of the three diacritical letters in their alphabet. I also believe that you
can change your Windows native language in a similar manner.

So this may not be a JAWS issue, but may be something you inadvertently set
up in your Windows settings.

Look in "region and language" in the Control Panel for starters.

It is not just the alt tab, the whole keyboard switches to French. I have
not tried the expressive voices to see if the problem remains or whether it
would be a cure.

Well, I was addressing the language detection problem in the case. It can be
matter of which is the more inconvenient: having alt-tab spoken (as if in
French, every time; or having the speech synthesizer run smoothly enough.

That is a matter of opinion! I have tried most of them for my language, US
English, and in certain circumstances they work great, for everyday use,
Eloquence is still my favorite, it reads punctuation I wish, raises and
lowers pitch for capitalization and after 17 years of using JAWS the cadence
is something I have gotten used to hearing. I have used other voices but I
go back to Eloquence and probably will do so until it disappears from the
program.
I hated Tom years ago, Samantha is horrible, some of the others also sound
like smokers, or Grandpa in Eloquence.
I use Paul from Voice ware in another screen reader and he is fine except
for some mispronunciations on some words. I used Paul then I had K1000 but
it never worked right with Windows 7, the voices in Open Book drive me crazy
after reading with hem for an hour or more. However, Eloquence in Open Book
also drives me crazy if I have to read for more than a few minutes, the
cadence is not the same as with JAWS, the phrasing is off, pitch seems less
stable,. I used it to read a PDF converted for a church project, 288 pages
more or less and I was amused by how it pronounced bible names, annoyed by
the constant higher pitch for some items, have no clue why it could change
pitch in the middle of a sentence, found it very distracting to be frank.
With each chapter of the book taking approximately an hour to read at a high
rate of speed, I wanted to scream by the time I was finished.
Unfortunately, I thought that since I had premium voices from Jaws 16, that
I could remove the ones Open Book used, discovered that is not the case, but
I don't think I would have been any more please by Tom or Samantha which as
I recall were to two main OB choices, since the program has not been updated
since about 2012, I doubt that there would be choices I'd like any better.

If I were to use Vocalizer Premium voices regularly in Jaws 17, it would
probably be Allison or Eva, but the few days I spent with each of them sent
me back to Eloquence.

If you change synthesizer, you probably won't have that problem. (Vocalizer
Expressive voices are now are as good as, or better than, Eloquence.)

I realize this doesn't help but I experience the same behaviour. I find
though that this happens when I am using IE 11, I don't think it happens
with other applications. I did ask this question of the list but no one
else seems to have the problem.
Its annoying and I hope we can find a solution.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 16 Language Changes

Hello,

This is actually my first time sending an email with this group.

I've been encountering an issue while using JAWS 16. Everytime I press keys

on my keyboared, the JAWS language changes to French. I've disabled the
language detect but, for example, if I press the Alt+Tab keys, instead of
JAWS saying "Alt Tab" in English, it says it in French.

I had the same issue on v15 and disabling the language detect solved it on
15 but not on 16.

I would appreciate any help in figuring what I'm doing differently with 16.

Thanks!
