Wayne, I'm not sure of the exact procedures
needed for accessing your school work. I can only surmise here.
I'm sure if they're using Google Drive to deliver
school work to you the book or whatever info they
want you to review must be downloaded first from
a folder that your teacher created on Google
Drive. You can also click on a document and have
it opened up without having to download it first,
and then locate it to open up.
Every single aspect of Google Drive is accessible
via keyboard shortcut keys. Review the details on
that link I shared with you which gives great
tips on using a screen reader with Google Drive.
There is also links for reviewing the page of shortcut keys there too.
Now once you used the Username and Password to
log into Google Drive, did you first turn off the
Virtual cursor press [Insert]+[z] and then tried
using the [Tab] key to navigate around the
screen? Do a little exploring that way and see what JAWS tells you.
You may end up on a file or document which
clearly tells you that your school work is
enclosed. Then you simply press the [Enter] or
[Spacebar] key on that item to have it open up in your browser.
Don't be nervous about exploring the screen this
way. It may seem tedious, but JAWS will read
better if you do things this way while in Google Drive.

The school sent me a link to the book and instructions to view it with file
explorer. I followed their instructions, used the user name and password
and clicked. All I have in front of me is a blanc screen and I have no idea
of what to do at this point.

Not sure what you mean "ftp" file. FTP generally stands for File Transfer
Protocol which is a method to move a file from one computer to another.
I use FTP regularly to transfer files from another computer while I am
remotely connected to their computer.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Download and read a ftp file
Hello-
The publisher of my Spanish textbook has sent a ftp file to me with
instructions on how to open the file using File Explorer. I went to the
menus and to view and clicked on view file with file explorer but there is
no readable text. Can Jaws read these files or do I need another method?
