Hi Zoe,

I haven't tried what I'm going to suggest, but it might work.  Try invoking 
the NVDA pass through keystroke, Insert / NVDA Key + F2, then invoke the 
Jaws keystroke, Insert / Jaws key, Spacebar, + S, to unmute Jaws.  HTH
