It has been some time since I last looked but I am fairly certain that the drivers are still in JAWS as they have always been. I even have such an animal in the closet that I didn't think worked any longer but then a friend of mine suggested I remove the battery and is working again. I don't have it connected up at this point, but it is an option.

The last few times I've installed Dectalk Express, I've needed to install no related software. There is no Dectalk software on my Win 7 machine, and the synthesizer works fine. Once you have the connector, just plug it in. then go to the JAWS synthesizer dialog to have it recognized. The default settings in that dialog (i.e., the com port, etc.) are correct and, at least in my case, created no conflict with other hardware. I'm using JAWS 17. -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, March 09, 2016 10:54 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Hardware decTalk -- is it still usable? Dave, Where do I get the software driver for the Dectalk Express or will the original software still work with Windows 7? I loved my Dectalk on my xp desktop and thought it was useless. I can get a serial to USB connector! There are USB-to-Serial dongles that are pretty reasonable in price. Then JAWS will recognize the hardware using a serial port number. I have my Dectalk Express set up that way. Hi All, I was cleaning out my office the other day (they are giving us new carpet at work), and I found an old hardware DecTalk with a serial connector. Now aside from the connector issue, is the hardware DecTalk even supported anymore by Jaws? If so, is there a converter that will allow me to connect it to my laptop? In my opinion, the hardware DecTalk was the best speech ever so I am really hoping it is still a viable option. Thanks for any info.
