what you do is if the png file is digitized you print it .
open the png file then select print. then at the select printer option select the 'freedom import printer when you execute the print OpenBook will automatically open and convert the image to text if there is any text in the image.

I am not finding an option to convert .png files in my version of openbook.

Use the Freedom Import Printer feature that's built into Openbook.
