Thanks, Steve, but I'm not getting anywhere trying this method. I should have said my OS is Win7. But from what I read on the Net, I seem to have found my computer's machine ID. It's the 24 characters that appear to be the problem, with the online form accepting neither less nor more than 25.

Open System from your control panel. I don't know which OS you are using. In mine, you can tab and see the computer name. To find the numeric product ID, you need to virtualize the screen, then you can copy it.
