well yes, you're going to have to press a key, the letter x. if this is not what you want, I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish based on what you already said. please explain further?

If I have a play list playing though, x will replay the song, but let's say
for example, I'm cleaning the house, the play list is playing, a song I
decide I want to repeat, how can that be done because it sounds like I have
to always tap a key for it to repeat.

while Winamp is playing a track, press x to repeat it.
r simply automatically repeats the track once it finishes playing.
btw, c will pause/resume playback.

Using the latest version of winamp, what is the keystroke if any to repeat a
track. Pressing "r" just states repeat on, repeat off.
