Wayne, you've encountered the reason why many of us use both IE and Firefox. Some would add Google Chrome to that browser list. IE works fine on some websites where Firefox is hopeless, and vice-versa. Frustrating, but at least the existence of alternatives makes for a workaround in most situations.
