Hi Kevin,
Someone along the way mistook your flash drive for a card.
There are no buttons or switches for write protection on standard flash
drives.
If your drive shows up in computer, then there may be a way to recover the
files, with a program such as Recuva.

HTH,
Rick Justice

Tomorrow's another day, another way!
and if tomorrow never comes, problem solved!

what's there to clarified, it's a flash drive memory stick.I run my fingers
up and down the stick it's as smooth as a babies bottom except for the
printed text from the manufacture which I cannot read. I put the stick into
my computer and jaws said format the drive. I've had this stick for four
years. awhile ago it did the same thing but I was able to get the documents
on my netbook. this time jaws announces in order to use this drive you must
format it.

Agreed. It would help if Kevin clarified, but yes, I was referring to an SD
card, and as Maria realized, it seems Kevin wasn't.

I think you guys are referring to a SD card, aren't you? Kevin's subject
says flash drive, which is the same as a thumb drive which I don't think has
such a slider. If I am incorrect I would appreciate further
clarification.Norma

Maria,

Thank you for the word 'switch," which is much more descriptive than my
"button." I don't use a fingernail to move the switch. Instead, I locate the
gap with the tip of my finger, then run my finger fairly hard against that
side. You can tell when the switch moves.

As for your apology, if there's any terminology confusion, I'm afraid I
caused it.

You can disregard my previous message, as the switch I'm talking about is on
flash cards not thumb drives.
