The transfer of settings from JAWS 17 to JAWS 18 worked for me as described. Given that it didn't work for you, it would be helpful to write a comment to this effect on VFO's bug reporting form for the beta release.
In my case, the system was a Windows 10 laptop in my work environment on which I installed the beta version alongside JAWS 17.
