Yes, so long as you have the room partition away.
It does not matter at all if a drive is internal or external, the fact is it
is a drive which is all that matters.

I am not sure if an external drive can be made into 3 partitions. I
amthinking of a weekly total back of my desktop, laptop and my grandson’s
college laptop. Then put that drive in a safe.I would like a partition for
each system backup.
