Dave, the original question is slightly different from the way it was first 
interpreted, and Mike got it right the second time. It isn't how to stop the 
arrow keys being verbalized, but how to stop JAWS from giving certain kinds of 
informational messages, such as how to handle particular controls. That's in 
the "tutor" message options under Basics I the JAWS menus. I'm glad he figured 
it out because I was about to post that the way to do this is by switching from 
beginner to intermediate verbosity. Amazing how complicated all this is when 
you think about it.

Nope. Go to Setting Center and then locate the "Manage Key Labels" page. 
Mute the keys you don't want to hear.
