I don't have time to check it now, but I believe that if you look around in the properties dialog, on one of the tabs you can find the file name of the service and the folder it is in so you can physically delete it if you want to.

If not, setting the startup type to disabled makes it unavailable to the system because it disables the entire service, not just how it starts up.

Cheers!

You are quite correct, sorry I did not include anything further in my
answer, but you finished it off in fine style.

If it's a service, you can't delete it using the services.msc program,
but you can do the next best thing and that is to disable it.

Once you have found Amazon assistant in the services list, right click
on it and select properties, in the dialog that comes up, tab until you
get to a drop down list called start up type and choose disabled, then
choose OK to save and exit the dialog. You can also click on the stop
button to halt the service if you like before exiting the dialog.

Cheers!

David, I can see the amazon assistant in the list. Is it possible to
delete the entry?

Windows services can be found at the following location:

services.msc

Just type that in the run dialog box.

Now if you could get msconfig to tell you where to find that, you could
physically remove it. All msconfig does is modify the entry so that it
doesn't run. Better to have it physically gone.

Unfortunately the files that get installed have filenames that are
GUIDs, which are randomly generated. There's no guarantee the files on
my system would match the files on yours.

Cheers!

After 2 restarts it has not shown itself. After removing it in

msconfig. Here under services there was something for amazon.
Unchecked it
and so far no more amazon assistant. Hope that it is not like the
proverbial cat with 9 lives.
