Wayne, Sorry, no wisdom here, but I'm wondering if JAWS just got tired. Reading selected text is one of the first things to go when JAWS starts dying on me. did you unload and reload JAWS, or maybe better still, reboot?

I noticed that when I highlight text now it remains silent. For example, I did the Control-A command to select a page and it selected it but remained silent where it used to start reading the selected text. I then selected one line and it was selected but did not read the highlighted text as it used to. I must have accidently changed something and I would like to change it back. Any help would be appreciated.
