Hi Larry,

I'm not sure of your Eudora question, however, in terms of trouble shooting
programs and the like, I only rely on myself and my brother, and Google, of
course.

The thing is, there are very few programs that will diagnose problems on your
computer that won't cause other problems to take it's place, so that is why I
rely on a few small programs I downloaded from Debbi's website, JFW Lite and
Google. These two resources and my own common sense will always figure
something out that my computer may be having a problem with.

If the fix seems to be graphical, or inaccessible, then I am forced to take my
computer to my brother, but those times are very few and far between.

Suffice it to say, I Googled your "Error 1706" and apparently it is a Window's
Installer error.

You have to specify what other information comes after the "Error 1706", as
this will indicate what it is that is going on.

Most commonly it has to do with Microsoft Office installer or something else
that is trying to install without the disk.

If you are getting this error at start-up, then it means that you have a
program somewhere on your computer that is set to run off the CD-ROM. In that
case, you have to go into your MS Config file, and control tab to the
"Start-up" tab and see what you have starting up that might be causing this.

If you'd like, you can e-mail me off-list with the entire error message and I
can Google it and send you any results I find, but more than likely, this may
be the only fix for it.

Another thing you may want to try is running a great program from Debbie's
website, www.jfwlite.com, called RegScrub XP. This will go through your
registry and clean it out and look for any erroneous lines and omissions.

If the problem persists after running the utility, try the steps I mentioned
above with the start-up programs and see what's going on in there.

Victor
