I've been really busy and not paying much attention to the lists, but saw
this message and thought I'd throw my two cents in.  As you have already
done, I believe you have selected a paragraph at a time and replaced the
hard returns.  If in a long document, this can be tedious.

I often first replace all double hard returns with some set of unlikely
characters like zzzz.  I then convert all the hard returns to spaces and
then all the zzzz to double hard returns.

You end up doing three separate global search and replaces, but depending on
the length of the document, that could be a lot quicker than one paragraph
at a time.
