  Patty -

JAWS Key+CTRL+W places the dialog that's currently on the screen into the
virtual buffer. For example, to capture an error message, do the following
  when the error is displayed:

  1. While the error message is displayed, press JAWS Key+CTRL+W to place the
  dialog into the Virtual Buffer.
  2. Press CTRL+A to select all of the contents of the Virtual Buffer.
  3. Press CTRL+C to copy the selected material to the clipboard.
  4. Press ESC to close the Virtual Buffer and return to the _actual_ error
  message.

Now, you have the dialog on the clipboard. If you can (and in your case, I
gather this wasn't really possible), open a new text file and paste the
contents of the Virtual Buffer into that file using CTRL+V. You will now
have a copy of the error message in a file that you can send in an e-mail
message--of course, you could just have pasted the information from the
clipboard straight into an e-mail. This was why the keystroke was
developed--so that users can capture error messages and send them to FS or
the manufacturer of their computer or software when reporting problems. It's
also a great way to snag portions of a directory (from Windows Explorer) and
  perform other similar tasks.

Now, to your specific problem. Was this a one-time-only occurrence or has it
happened more than once? If it only occurred once, I'd just chalk it up as
some kind of freak occurrence. Since you got the blue screen of death, you
weren't going to be able to save anything to a file, unfortunately, so that
avenue isn't available if this happens in the future. I've seen very, very
few blue screens while running JAWS, if that makes you feel any better, but
if this problem is happening frequently, you may need to have someone check
your computer. It might need to have some Microsoft updates applied, it
might need a good virus scan, or there might be any number of other things
that could be looked at. The sequence you were going through (read a
message, press ESC to exit it, press DEL to delete it) is so common that if
you see this problem again, definitely get the computer checked. I would be
very surprised if it's a JAWS problem unless you clearly remember that the
error said something about JAWS and if that's the case, it would be
extremely interesting to know what component in JAWS failed. To check this
  out, go to:

  C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\7.0\

and look for the file JFW.rpt. This is the JAWS severe error log and while
its contents will mean nothing to you or me, JAWS support might be very
interested in seeing it, along with an explanation of just what you were
  doing before the crash.

Also, if JAWS wouldn't talk, you _might_ try turning on Narrator by pressing
Windows Key+U, then use ALT+TAB to get to the window where the error message
is being displayed and try to make some notes on what it says. This is one
way Narrator can come in handy.

  Hope this helps.

  Hey Walt,
I'm sorry, I'll try to do better.
I was in outlook express reading my email. I opened one email then I press
ESC and then delete then my screen shut off and a blue screen came on. All
it said the Jaws had a problem. I couldn't do anything, but shut off my
  computer, because Jaws wouldn't talk.
I have Jaws 7 and XP home.
What does insert ctrl w do?
  hth Patti
