Lisa:

Your friend is correct.  That is a great feature of windows, you can use 
ccut, copy and vast to move whole files, not just text.  JUst select the 
file, or folder you want, hit control_c, go to where you want to store it, 
and past with control +v.  It's a quick and easy way to move things.
