I'm not sure, but have you tried the cheque printing program available on the JFW Lite site?
It's free, or at least, I think it is, and I think it's completely accessible, or at least that's what Debbie told me some time ago when I inquired about it. I haven't used it myself yet, as I haven't had cause to, but who knows, you may find it's exactly what you need.
