Subject: [jaws-users] Serious bug in 7.10 merge utility

I've been working privately with an individual who was having problems with
their Outlook Express settings after merging their 7.0 settings into 7.10
and it reminded me of a bug in the 7.10 merge utility. Files for Outlook
Express and Internet Explorer are not given the correct names when they're
merged into 7.10 because between the two releases, the file names were
changed and somehow, the merge utility wasn't fixed to allow for the name
  change. Here's the story:

In 7.0, the files for Internet Explorer (dictionary, graphics,
configuration, etc.) are all named Internet Explorer 5-6, but in 7.10, this
was changed to Internet Explorer. Similarly, the files in 7.0 for Outlook
Express were named Outlook Express 5-6, but in 7.10, they're named Outlook
Express. However, when you run the merge tool, the old file names are
retained, meaning that JAWS can't correctly associate them with the
application that's running and you think that your settings are broken or
  lost.

What you need to do to fix this is the following:

  1. Open Start Menu, navigate to JAWS 7.10, and press RIGHT ARROW twice to
  Explore My Settings. Press ENTER.
  2. This opens your user settings folder. Look for any files named Internet
Explorer 5-6 or Outlook Express 5-6 and rename them to Internet Explorer and
Outlook Express by pressing F2 and deleting the single space and the string
"5-6." Press ENTER when done. If the system won't let you change the name
because it says that a file with that name already exists, this most likely
means that after running the merge utility, you later used the JAWS dialog
or Configuration Manager to create settings. In this case, press ESC to get
out of the edit window and then delete the files that have the "5-6" in
their names _if_ there are files with the same extension named correctly.
  Rename any that remain.
