Marilyn, I'm really not sure if this problem is because of Windows 2000 but I thought I'd pass that information along. Why JAWS 8.0 is acting as it is with Internet Explorer 6.0 is baffling; FS has stated that 8.0 will work with 2000 and I have no doubt that they tested the three versions of the software (IE. JAWS and 2000) together. I have tried to go to Microsoft's update pages to download and install IE 7.0 but for whatever reason that has not popped up as an update for my system. I know I'm still running IE 6.0 from the Help/About menu item.
