It sounds to me like the 'Beep' device is disabled on this system. You can
check this out by opening the Properties on My Computer > Hardware tab >
Device Manager. Then drop down the View menu and click on 'Show hidden
devices'. The 'Beep' device is under 'Non-Plug and Play Drivers'. If it is,
in fact, disabled then you can open its Properties to enable it.
