I am aware of that possibility but all the requests are legitimate based on a random sample of the requests. It is just a well known snowball effect.

Jim,

If there is a sudden increase in requests, they may be fake. You might want to check with LinkedIn on a few to be sure.

Guys,

I have recently been flooded by LinkedIn requests from you all. The problem is that Linked In connections only really work well if there is some prior business relationship. If I had accepted the ones I have received in the last two weeks I would have close to 800 connections and it would cloud the ability to use the LinkedIn site effectively. Hence, please don’t send me LinkedIn requests unless you do know me (and don’t hate me ;-), as I don’t like to refuse people but I basically have to.

Cheers,

Jim
