The easiest way it to let the system tell you what the file size
should be, especially for a file that has grown for a while.

use:

jrf -R [filename]

Please note the the -R option creates a report only, it does not
resize the file.
Secondly, you never want to resize a file when anyone could POSSIBLY
be using it.  You might well lose data.  In fact, file resizing should
only be done on a totally quiescent system
