Hi David,

Any possibility you got a bad battery? I don't know if there's a way to test laptop batteries or not. Just a thought... I have a lot of Sony A/V gear, but I've noticed over the past few years they have gone downhill. I guess everybody has. :-(

Hi Guys:

I have another way off topic question.  I figure variety is the spice of life so here goes.

I purchased a third party battery for my SONY LAPTOP.   model VGN NR398D.  Battery model is VGP-BPS9/B.

It is a 9 cell 7800mahr battery because the Sony is a pig at eating up power.

Turns out Sony is not only a pig, it is a very touchy pig, in that they have installed software (and hardware I suppose) that can detect whether or not one installs a genuine Sony battery at almost the cost of the laptop, or a cheap Chinese import.  I cannot get my laptop to recognize that it has a battery installed.  Of course the battery came with some software c/w chinese instructions and I cannot get it to work.

Has anyone in the group ever tried this with any success.  My next step is to run over the laptop with my car, and vow never to purchase anything from sony again.

I have already boycotted RCA and haven't purchased any of their products for about 15 years.
