What format is the backup in? Was it made with universe's uvbackup? If so, I 
think there's a jbase utility that can read that. If not, Rocket (the people 
who own universe now) have a universe personal edition 
http://www.rocketsoftware.com/products/rocket-universe/try-now that you could 
try and load the files into.
