Neil: I am retired and still dabble in jbase. I didn’t want to get into new territory so I stayed with 32 bit. It works great, so no need to go any further. One thing to be aware of (I learned the hard way) is that you should stay away from any MS OS with the word “HOME” in it (i.e. win 7 home premium). some of the networking support has been stripped out of it including extended user setup etc.
I purchased a straight 32 bit win 7 professional disk and installed on an old dell computer. At first it wouldn’t install because there was TOO MUCH MEMORY in the machine (4 gb) When I removed 2 gb, install proceeded smoothly. Weird or What ? I might add that I had help from others on this site to get my system installed. Also I would add, that I have multiple accounts set up and each account has its own md, bin, programs , etc files. My back up info consists of a copy of the account that I have worked on and pasted into a file on an external hard drive. the file name is the date of my backup (copy) Takes less than a minute to backup a full account including basic source, lib, data . sorry, I couldn’t find a way to make “live mail” insert text into this document, so it is an attachment. If this is unreadable, let me know , and I will try harder.
