I'm actually working towards that same goal, so I will be submitting it after these holidays.
As for cost, I suppose that depends upon the size of dataset and so forth. A breakdown of one of the most frequently mentioned examples of it being used can be found at: http://zzzoot.blogspot.com/2008/02/hadoop-ec2-s3-super-alternatives-for.html The computation would cost 10USD (for all "small instances") and the data charges would be far lower.
