I'm writing because my company has just released a product called OpenJODA. Basically what we're doing in the first step is allowing people to start working with a full package of a java portal server as we call it. In order to this we have packaged the following technologies into an InstallAnywhere binary : - Apache Tomcat - JBoss EJB container - Apache Turbine - Apache Jetspeed - Hypersonic SQL We have also added two portlets that allows users to customize the list of newsfeeds that are available on their portals and also to remove them. In order to do this we connect to an LDAP server on our web site called Mycomponents.com. You can download this package at the following URL : http://mycomponents.com/openjoda/install/install.html As this is the first version of our product, we welcome your feedback, which can be directed to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or even to me directly if you feel like it (although I recommend using the support way :)). We will also be adding in the near future a configuration manager, in the form of a java swing application that will help doing quick changes in the settings of OpenJODA as well as handle tasks such as restarting the server, etc.. In order to promote the development of web applications (we call them components, but well :)) on this platform, we have launched a contest for the best applications. This contest is done in collaboration with Collab.net (which is responsible notably for sourcexchange.com) and consists of two steps, the first one being the proposal for applications, and the second being the coding of the winning propositions. Both steps are totally open to anybody except of course mycomponents.com or xo3 (our sister company) employees. Of course we will be offering prices for the two steps of the contest, in the first one prices such as PDAs or giant Tuxes, and the second part's prices will be less original : cash :) The total amount of these prices is $50'000. If you want more details I suggest you check out the web site (http://mycomponents.com) and contact us if you have any questions. We will be offering more services to the community, in terms of participating in the development of the packaged products, and also in giving them the market share they deserve. We are willing to contribute design, support, marketing and code to all these projects to make sure that they can achieve their potential. Of course we are a commercial company too, and will try to stay very clear that all our components will not necessarely be open source, but we will try to help the community in the process. Thank you for your time, Serge Huber. Chief Technology Officer. [EMAIL PROTECTED]
