Sorry to carry this further, but what's the point of the proxy proxy package done by Dan O'Connor?  Java reflection has all this stuff.  Why reimplement it?

The difference is the proxy generation.
 
The jdk1.2.2 doesn't have this and the proxy proxy package done by Dan Oconnor mimicked that.  Afaik Dain uses the proxy proxy for the EJB 2.0 class generation on the fly (fancy stuff).  It is ironical for those that know the history behind it all.
 
As far as we are concerned I believe we should drop 1.2.2 support altogether
